Galaxy S9 Plus are here-Galaxy S9 Review

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are here, and it's finally time for hands-on experience that everyone has been waiting for. Samsung has basically kept the same build style as last year ... and the year before ... and the year before that. And they never really have. They failed a durability test yet, so it's working for them. But it's time to see what happens to this new Galaxy S9.

Let us begin. The Galaxy S9 keeps moving the Gorilla Glass 5 on the screen this year, but this Once the glass is a bit thicker, which is supposed to help with drop protection. I will have the drop test in a future video, but as of now we are still getting the same score in the zero test like other flagships. It will scratch at a level 6 and a deeper groove at a level 7. HTC still holds that top spot with its scratch resistant sapphire crystal display,

scratch at a level 8. Tempered glass is pretty normal for smartphones these days.At least razor blades, coins, and keys won't do any harm. The bottom of the phone has digital buttons underneath that glass, so there is nothing new to check here. The headset is flush and snug within its small slot. It is made of metal with small holes that protect it from dirt and metal shavings attracted by that magnet underneath. It's a smart design and better than some of the cloth we've seen on other phones before.

The 8 megapixel front camera is located under the front glass and is protected against scratches. The sides of the phone come with a thin plastic cover that protects the painted surface underneath. I'll remove it so we can get a ... proper verification of the material. Yes, it is metal. One cool thing about this phone is that Samsung has improved the aluminum to make it more scratch and impact resistant. This has added about 8 grams of weight to the phone, as the glass is a bit thicker too.

But in my opinion, weight is associated with quality, so I'm fine with these improved materials. The SD card slot on the top is upgraded to hold an impressive 400 gigabytes of whatever you need. It's nice to have more features than you could ever need on a phone. All buttons are made of metal ... and oh!

Samsung took that dedicated Bixby button that nobody wants and updated it to version 2.0. That's great. Down here at the bottom of the phone we have the USB-C slot, as well as the headphone jack, making for the ultimate daily driver of the S9 material. I don't use a 3.5 jack often, but it's incredibly nice to have it on the phone when I need it. The camera on the back of the phone is where we start to see some pretty significant improvements over the Galaxy S8, which I'll get to more of in a second. This 12-megapixel sensor is still protected by glass, and thankfully the fingerprint scanner is now under the camera in a much more accessible location.

Approved by that Samsung. However, the fingerprint scanner can get scratched by my razor blade, so we'll give it a little test to see if it still works.

And even with that much damage on the surface, he still performs like a champ. Pretty solid. Now let's see what that camera can do. One thing Samsung added this year is something called AR emoji that looks a bit like you and sticks it on the screen. It is quite similar to the Animoji that we saw on the iPhone X.

But if you look closely at my lips, one follows me much more closely than the other.Fun fact, you can change different hairstyles, and in real life, in high school, my hair looked a lot more like this. It is not a joke. If you go back enough on my Instagram, I can probably see a couple more photos. Bottom line, if you like animated characters, the iPhone is likely the way to go - lips really work. So dbrand said they were going to send me some new skins to show off in this video. However, I have not seen them yet, so I will leave a link in the video description. You can check out your new selection so you can hide fingerprints on the back of this glass sandwich. Thanks dbrand for sponsoring this video and I'll let you know if your camo designs ever show up.

The feature that impresses me the most about this Galaxy S9 is the rear camera. This is the first smartphone camera with a double aperture sensor inside. It has a mechanical system that can expand and contract to allow more light to reach the sensor. Professional camera lenses have this and it's incredibly cool to see whate begins to make its way into the world of smartphones. Better images for everyone to enjoy. We will have to take a look at this from the inside during teardown. The larger S9 Plus also adds a telephoto lens to the phone, which is impressive.

Here I am adjusting the aperture manually in Pro mode. You can see the difference in light when I jump from 1.5 to 2.4. The 1.5 will help considerably in low light situations. The rear glass of the Galaxy S9 makes Art Class with Jerry impossible. The Samsung logo is still on the bottom of the glass and never scratch or run off ... well, unless you want a clear S9, of course. Let me know in the comments if I need to make this phone transparent. It's time for the burn test. Bixby 2.0 is already getting in the way, so I'll roast it for a second. This 5.8-inch Super AMOLED HDR 101440p display lasted for 12 seconds before the pixels started to turn white.

After I removed the flame, the pixels started to rebound, which is not always the case with LED displays.

However, the oleophobic coating never survives the burn test. You can see my fingerprints still on the surface of the glass so it is important not to try this at home.

However, it's great to see the Samsung screen recover, although the only person who is probably dealing with this kind of damage is me. And now the folding test. Samsung has never failed my durability test before, and with this improved luminum frame, the results are consistent, surviving front and rear flex. With the Galaxy S7 a few years ago, we had a glass gap during the curve that compromised waterproofing. But with the Galaxy S9, even with the abuse, the glass is still sealed and the ip68 rating is intact.

Another solidly built Samsung phone and a good option for anyone looking for an upgrade.I have personally been using the S8 Plus for the past year, and although this new phone is.

In fact, tempting, it's not enough for me to change my things. I'll probably wait and see if the next Note has anything worth changing for, or maybe I'll jump ship entirely and use another Android phone from a different company. Let's see what 2018 brings. Thanks again to dbrand for sponsoring this video. Camouflage skins are pretty sneaky. Check out the link in the description to see all their news and then hang out with me on Instagram. Maybe I'll post more old school hair photos. Thanks so much for looking. I will see you there.
